Weekly Zephyr #46: The Hall of Quiet Study and Beyond
What I wish today is that we were all in that Hall of Quiet Study up there.
What I'm picturing is that it labyrinths around and around and it's a school but we're not all learning the same things. In fact, nobody's ever in the same class. There aren't classes per se. It's an independent study situation*. The school knows us each inside-out and we tap into our own course of learning—something perfect that we couldn't have envisioned on our own—that lights us up like crazy. But we're all in one building. It's not just...life. There are dorms.
I just feel like being in a room full of people who are deeply absorbed in a field of inquiry that's thrilling to each of them but nobody has to compromise on thrill level/specifics to make a coherent group experience. The group experience is just togetherness.
One of us maybe pipes up with something cool that we've learned (or a funny insight) every half hour tops. We're focused but the vibe is light.
That's my mood so you're invited.
learning supplies (coffee, too, obvs, and whatever else you feel should be there)
possible view from one of the windows = nicely supportive of pensiveness/an elegant, winding train of thought
this is just a good fern. we're calling it the learning fern. it's outside. you can go see it. maybe meditate/sit quietly next to it and it'll unravel something for you while you're not looking.
WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING REPLY IF YOU WANT AND TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD DEVOTE YOURSELF TO IN THE HALL OF QUIET STUDY
doesn't matter if your answer would change next week what kind of thing would you choose right now while you're thinking about it
Items for you to enjoy while you rest your brain
Maybe you'd like to unwind and then keep on going.
The only (incredibly endearing) comment underneath it:
2. Peter Serafinowicz Party
3. This is maybe not one for break.
It's not exactly a brain rester. But you could set yourself up with some mini-pastries and kick it on a beanbag and go in anyway.
WARNING: Flatland was published in 1884 and is sexist/classist as balls but if you feel like grokking four dimensions while you flip the rest the bird it's very good.
