Weekly Zephyr #37: You Poked My Heart
Weekly Zephyr #37: February 8th, 2018
Holly Elander, Couch
Technically
this issue of the Weekly Zephyr isn't late. It's Thursday, just like it's supposed to be. But it feels late because I'm writing this on Thursday instead of writing it on Wednesday and sending it at midnight-ish like I normally do.
WHY at home today with post-flu shot malaise (give the cat in the painting above a laptop and that's me working on this newsletter put a cardigan on it first give it fingers then it's true)
I'M SORRY I'M LATE EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT worst apology ever
What's at the forefront of my mind as I type is not, as I hoped it would be, Black History Month or even Valentine's Day as I'm a goo-hoo-hooon for all holidays. It's this:
The compartment I keep the attack on our republic in as I, you know, compartmentalize and work to go about my days is cracked open at the moment and well I hate to use the word leak, but it's leaking.
I'm someone who's always had excellent blood pressure. Oh, I've been smug about it. When a nurse asks me, "Do you mind if I take your blood pressure?" I start preening inside right away.
<fancy voice>GO AHEAD, BE MY GUEST</fancy voice> *rolling hand flourish*
They take it and they always say, "That's good!" and I nod and look wise and peaceful.
But yesterday when I went to the doctor, my blood pressure for the very first time ever left the cool cucumber zone and snuck into you take care now territory.
In that sense, as an American, I am late.
Quincy Jones Has Exemplary Blood Pressure: The Trifecta
Ijeoma's book is on sale today (2/8) in e-book format for $2.99 so if you haven't, tonight's the day, unless you want to just buy it at regular price which would also be cool because her work is the business and deserves our dollars. Go check it out. I just got my copy a few days ago and am digging in.
And follow her on social media if you don't already but by god be cool if you're white and just listen for a looooong, looooong time—or, you know what, always would also work. Never anything wrong with just listening. Questions start to get answered by themselves. (And there's always Google for those pesky questions that don't get answered the minute they appear in your mind.)
MOOJI HAS THE REAL GREAT BLOOD PRESSURE
Do you know Mooji? He's starting to become one of my favorite spiritual teachers. Here he is talking about how we don't have to try and love everybody

which is relaxing, which I could use, and maybe so could you.
