Weekly Zephyr #117: Part One
The unpredictable rate of change on this planet
is a real bear when it comes to planning out newsletters. Because they can’t rewrite themselves after they’ve been sent, the newsletters are particularly vulnerable pre-send.
Current events can derail newsletters that were 75% complete. What seemed fun Monday morning might seem hollow and obscene by Monday night. A newsletter conceived in a spirit of fun might need to be composted and rethought, tried for again in better weather.
“Better weather” means, here, an angle that lines up with the skies as they really are. One cloud break, one shaft of light, and we can talk about anything, even silly things, even obscenely silly and decadent things.
The Weekly Zephyr might be split into two, possibly even three posts this week. Or it will just be this one. I’ve been working on two separate versions of the Met Gala red carpet post I announced, one for free subscribers and one behind the paywall. These posts are working to justify their existence in our new reality and find forms that will uplift us and not grate on our beings. It might take a minute for this to happen properly.
In the meantime:
I’m thinking about all of you. If I can deliver a pair of Zephyrs tomorrow that have any genuine joie-de-vivre in them, you will have them. I will not dump forced nonsense on you if it doesn’t work. We’ll give them the time they need to be right.
I hope you’re finding ways to deliver care to yourself and others who need it right now. More care, we need so much care, in both wrathful and gentle forms.
Love out to you all.
Abortion is an absolute right.
We will not be forcing each other into childbirth.
Simple assertions today.
